Performances begin August 14 for the off-Broadway revival of Athol Fugard’s dark drama The Train Driver. Directed by Fugard, the production stars Ritchie Coster as Roelf and Leon Addison Brown as Simon. The Train Driver is scheduled to open officially on September 9 and play a limited engagement through September 23 in the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center.
Based on a true story, The Train Driver is the story of Roelf (Coster), a train driver who has spent weeks searching for the identities of a mother and child he accidentally killed with his train. After traveling through shantytowns, he meets Simon (Brown), an old gravedigger who helps Roelf unburden his conscience. The Train Driver is the exploration of guilt, suffering and a powerful bond that grows between strangers.
The Train Driver includes set design by Christopher H. Barreca, costume design by Susan Hilferty, lighting design by Stephen Strawbridge, sound design by Brett Jarvis and original music by Doug Wieselman.
